Abstract

Research in the field of semiotics leads the researcher to a firm conviction that this science is deeply intertwined with various other disciplines, regardless of their types or classifications. Its branches extend into all fields—sociology, logic, rhetoric, psychology, and more. However, what concerns us in this study is its intersection with the sciences of language and linguistics, to which we have limited our focus. Our aim is to explore whether semiotics benefits from these two fields or vice versa, and whether they are part of it or it is subordinate to them. This is the central question we attempt to clarify, with the help and guidance of God.
We begin by establishing the connection between semiotics and other sciences, particularly language and linguistics, due to their inseparable and interdependent relationship with it. The first section addresses the relationship between semiotics and language, highlighting its significance concisely. The second section explores the relationship between semiotics and linguistics, followed by a discussion of the developments that emerged from Ferdinand de Saussure’s Course in General Linguistics. The study concludes with a list of sources and references.
